round 173 engineering colleges across the state will soon offer tailor-made courses in aeronautical engineering to bring their curriculum on par with industry requirements.
As part of this move, the state information technology department has roped in Singapore-based Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) to design a curriculum and impart training to students in these colleges. ERAU is a major research centre providing solutions to real-world problems in partnership with the aerospace industry, universities and government agencies. The new curriculum will revamp all the three domains of this branch of study — manufacturing, operations and maintenance.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between the Singapore university and Telangana Academy of Skills and Knowledge (TASK) on Friday at the Singapore Air Show. Officials said that ERAU, apart from curating the curriculum, will also provide instructional design for creating and assessing training and educational programmes, faculty development and career counselling.
“One of the key focus areas of this MoU is to enhance professional skills among youth in the semi-skilled to highly-skilled segments like technicians, instructors, engineers and scientists, over the next few years,” said Sujiv Nair, chief executive officer, TASK.
