The Jeep Compass has been rather quick in establishing itself in the fast-growing SUV market of the country. While the Compass has become a favorite of many premium SUV buyers, it has also found its way to the garages of some of the celebrities of India. Back in January, popular Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez was gifted a Jeep Compass by FCA India. Now, it has come to light that even Bollywood heartthrob Akshay Kumar has acquired a Jeep Compass. It looks like Akshay too has been gifted this hot-selling SUV by FCA India.
Jacqueline and Akshay aren’t the only Bollywood actors to have received a car from FCA India. The company has also gifted Saif Ali Khan a Grand Cherokee SRT. It’s noteworthy here that the Grand Cherokee SRT is the fastest Jeep SUV ever. It costs a whopping Rs 1.82 crore. It’s not uncommon to see manufacturers of luxury/premium SUV and cars gifting high-end models to celebs in exchange for brand promotion. With the addition of the Compass, Akshay’s collection of cars gets even larger. While his garage has some exotics like the Rolls Royce Phantom and the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, he uses a current-gen Honda CR-V on daily basis. With the addition of the Compass, he now has a decent alternative to the fast-aging daily driver.
The Jeep Compass, akin to the current-gen CR-V, has a 5-seat layout. This SUV locks horns with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV500 in terms of price positioning. The Compass has been outselling the XUV500 and the Hexa, both of which are more powerful and offer 7 seats, on a regular basis. The Compass is on sale with two engines – a 1.4-Liter turbo petrol and 2.0-Liter turbo diesel. The petrol engine outputs a maximum power of 160 Bhp along with a peak torque of 250 Nm. The diesel engine, on the other hand, outputs a maximum power of 170 Bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. While the petrol motor offers two transmission choices – 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, the diesel engine, on the other hand, gets a 6-speed manual transmission only. Jeep India is also contemplating launch of the Trailhawk variant, which offers a 9-speed auto ‘box. The upcoming model will likely cost Rs 24 lakh.
