JEE was introduced by CBSC replacing IIT and AIEEE in the year 2012. The exam is conducted in two parts namely JEE Mains and JEE Advanced for students who wish to get admission in best engineering colleges. Candidates seeking admission in colleges like Indian Institute o Technology and Indian School of Mines in Dhanbad do appear for the JEE Advanced test. While again candidates who appear for JEE Mains aim to get admission in colleges like Indian Institute of Information Technology, National Institutes of Technology, Central Funded Technical Institute and IIEST Shibpur.
Eligibility criteria for the tests
If you are about to appear for JEE Mains 2016, you should have taken birth on 1st of October of the year 1991 or after. But in case, if you are a candidate from backgrounds such as SC, ST or PWD, then you can appear for the test if you are born after 1st of October of the year 1986. Also students who have appeared for their class 12th exams in either the year 2014 or 2015 or even those who are appearing class 12th in the year 2016 can appear for the Mains test.
The age limit is same for the candidates preparing for JEE Advanced 2016 test as the Mains. But for Advanced, candidates should have an aggregate mark of about 75% in their class 12th of 2014 or 2015. The aggregate score can be of 70% in case of candidates from SC, ST and PWD category.
Syllabus and paper
In case of both the tests, candidates have to prepare JEE mains and JEE Advanced syllabus based on the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Aptitude test. In case of both the tests, there are two papers that the candidates have to clear up. The first paper will be of 3 hours and it contains both positive and negative markings. The second paper contains questions on the subjects of Mathematics test, Aptitude test and also drawing test.
Though commonly the language of the tests is English but also candidates can select among various other languages as per their comfort. This has to be done while filling up the JEE Advanced or JEE Mains form.
Preparation for the tests
If you are about to appear for the tests to be held in the year 2016, then apart from completing the syllabus and studying hard, you should also have to go through the JEE Mains and JEE Advanced 2015 question paper. Only studying day and night is not the only thing that you require to crack the JEE tests, candidates also have to practice a lot with last few years question papers and also various mock test papers. It is not an easy task to complete so many objective questions in 3 hours time and that also correct. Practicing test papers is the only way that can help a candidate in this regard.
Attempts for the test
JEE is held to be one of the toughest competitive exams in India. It is not necessary that candidates appearing for the tests will crack them in just one go. Candidates appearing for the Mains test have three attempts to crack the test in consecutive years. But the Advanced test is a bit difficult than the Mains. Candidates can appear for only two JEE Advanced attempts in consecutive years.
