Popularly known as Heaven of Medical Studies, the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) are a group of autonomous public medical colleges of higher education. These institutes have been declared by Act of Parliament as institutions of national importance. AIIMS New Delhi is the fore-runner parent excellence institution which was established in 1956.
AIIMS has been consistently ranked the top medical college in India to pursue any Medical degree by India Today in annual surveys starting from 1997 and was ranked no. 1 in 2013. AIIMS has held the top slot for the last six years in a row, and has been ranked first for 11 out of the 12 years that India Today has conducted the survey. AIIMS was ranked 1 in the Outlook India ranking of medical colleges in 2013. But the question is how to get admission in AIIMS? Well the answer to this question is AIIMS Medical Entrance Exam. You will have to appear for the entrance exam and grab a nice rank to clear the cut off list.
About AIIMS Entrance Exam
AIIMS Entrance exam is a very competitive exam as large number of applicants appear for this exam every year. Next year it will be conducted on May 28, 2017. This entrance test for undergraduate level is conducted in two slots- morning and evening. You will have to appear for the online test as per the slot allotted to you and that will be mentioned in your AIIMS Admit Card.
AIIMS MBBS entrance exam will be a single paper of 3 hours and 30 minutes duration, which includes 200 multiple choice questions. There will be 4 sections in the entrance exam of AIIMS which are of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General knowledge. Physics, Chemistry and Biology sections contains 60 questions each while the last section of General Knowledgewill have only 20 questions. Each right answer given by you will be worth 1 mark but remember that 1/3 (one-third) of marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
How to prepare?
- Basics are important
Mostly, the questions asked in the AIIMS exam are from the NCERT 11th and 12th class Physics, Chemistry and Biology syllabus. So, if your fundamentals from school are right, then half of the battle is won. But it is never harmful to give a brief revision. And in case, your basics are not clear then the first thing for you to do is to get them straight. Pick up the books of 11th and 12th and give them a thorough study.
- Understanding the syllabus properly
Before making your preparation schedule, you need to know the whole syllabus of AIIMS MBBS Entrance Exam well. It’s critical to thoroughly know the syllabus, so that you don’t waste your precious time and efforts on irrelevant topics. Since most of it is from the NCERT books, you can compare the NCERT syllabus with your board exam syllabus. That way, you will not have to prepare for the common chapters separately.
- Collect your study material smartly
There is an enormous amount of study material available for AIIMS. So, it becomes critical to pick the reference books for the AIIMS exam wisely. Don’t get yourself piled up with huge number of books, instead choose the right quality of books and that too limited in number.
- Prepare subject wise study plan
You must plan your strategy carefully for different subjects viz. Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Here are a few pointers on how you can prepare separately, for each subject:
Physics– Physics section tests your analytical skills. The physics questions in the AIIMS entrance are of advanced level, but if your concepts are clear, then you have no reason to worry. Practice as many assertion and reason questions as you can.
Chemistry – Most of the questions in chemistry section of AIIMS Entrance are NCERT based. You can solve the questions from NCERT books while practicing so that you can get an idea what type of questions are asked in the main exam.
General Knowledge–Even though GK section carry 20 marks, but it is easy to score these 20 marks.All you have to do is to read newspapers and current affair magazines daily to stay in the loop on all the latest happenings.Track record of all the important events in recent past.
