Toyota Yaris, the much awaited mid-size sedan will launch on May 18, 2018, in India. The sedan was officially showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo earlier this year. Toyota dealerships across India will start taking bookings from April 22. A few dealerships have already started taking bookings at a payment of Rs. 50,000.

The Toyota Yaris has created a lot of buzz in the market due to its segment-leading features. Toyota Yaris had also released an official video of the vehicle highlighting its segment first features. The car gets a long list of features and it includes electrically adjustable driver’s seat, gesture sensing touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting, roof-mounted AC vents, tyre pressure monitoring system and 7 airbags. Toyota will be the first manufacturer to offer all the features for the first time in the segment. The 7 airbags include dual front, side airbags, curtain airbags and driver’s knee airbag.

The Yaris will be powered by a petrol engine only. There will be no diesel engine in the vehicle, which may prove to be a disadvantage for Toyota in the segment as all the rival models offer powerful diesel engines. It will only get a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine that produces a maximum power of 108 PS and 140 Nm. The car will get a 6-speed manual transmission and a CVT automatic gearbox. The CVT automatic will be available as an option with all the variants of the vehicle, which is another first. It will be a 7 stepped transmission and gets paddle shifters.

Toyota is expected to attract a lot of young buyers with the feature-rich vehicle. Toyota will be at the advantage due to its well-established brand in India, all thanks to products like the Fortuner and Innova. The Yaris is expected to be priced around Rs. 8 lakh, which will make it undercut the Honda City’s price. The Yaris will be manufactured at Toyota’s Bidadi factory near Bangalore. With a high amount of localisation, the car will get a very competitive price tag.
